BURNING MAN: BEYOND BLACK ROCK
BURNING MAN: BEYOND BLACK ROCK (Gone Off Deep Productions) is the first ever look behind the scenes at the cultural phenomenon that is Burning Man. The result of more than 2 years of shooting and editing, it’s a film that can be enjoyed and digested by Burners and non-Burners alike, and offers unique insights into the psychology of alternative societies. My role on the film was that of story supervisor and co-producer. Pre-production consisted of everything from writing initial treatments and concept documents, to scheduling and writing questions for interviews.
As we entered the production phase, I traveled to San Francisco several times, conducting interviews with Burning Man’s founders, staff and artists, including two trips Nevada’s Black Rock Desert for the event itself in 2002 and 2003. By the time we wrapped production, we had shot well over 200 hours of footage.
The post-production phase involved logging the mountains of tape and working closely with director Damon Brown and producer Mike Wilson to craft the story. The result is an immensely satisfying feature-length documentary that is sure to remain the definitive Burning Man film for years to come.

SUBSTANCE TV
SUBSTANCE TV was a hugely ambitious concept - a DVD-based magazine focusing on contemporary art and culture. Launched in 2001, each issue contained a mix of short documentaries and personality profiles, films and music videos.

As SUBSTANCE TV’s Editor-in-Chief, I played a major role in selecting submissions and green-lighting concepts for original productions. I also produced and directed several short documentary segments and provided written support for the companion website in the form of interviews and articles.
