A Single Stream of Light

A single stream of light
breaks between
these curtains-
these dark and
leaden tapestries,
this soft
illusion of night-
and gathers
in a pool that
shimmers golden
at my feet.
My senses start to stir
(though not enough to eat), and
I sit up; enough
light now to shoot up.
A prick of the skin,
the light recedes,

the pool evaporates
to black.
