Leftover Dreams

I awaken, just
For a moment—
The stark light stings and
Waters my eyes.

I pursue a vision,
Breathlessly, that
Stays one step
Ahead of me,

Inviting me and
Spiting me;
Mocking as it
Disappears,

Then reappears
Inside of me.
It hides from me
My eyes grow dim and

I can’t see.
Once again,
Sleep beckons me.
